Hi Mom,

Just a note to tell you Andrew and I, Teal, are fine, I guess, you can guess who Teal is. We are doing good sent you some pictures of our first 91 degree, breezy, beautiful morning we spent outside and I might add we  had 30 percent humidity which for Az. is a great thing it's like we never left San Diego.

There is also a picture of our playpen we spend a lot of time on near our new mom..She is pretty good she feeds us everything but the kitchen sink. Andrew eats everything including Bananas YUK!!!! I don't, yet...

She hope I do, she loves to cook. We'll keep you posted but we won't bore you with to many pictures. By for now.

Love, Teal and Andrew

So far, he seems fine; eats well especially grapes; haven't seen him drink water, so I assume he is getting his moisture from the grapes.  Gave him papayas which he likes.  He's eating some of the adult pellets, but prefers the colored ones.  He started climbing on the side of his cage this morning so he is exploring and getting a little stronger.  He squawks when we come home and open the cage, but soon calms down to a small squawk which seems like he's calling his African Gray friend.  At first he wouldn't do a step up from on top or from inside his cage, but he's doing it pretty well now.

He lets us touch him virtually everywhere, including "pit pets"...lift his wings, and a thing we call "chin" which is wiping food off his lower beak.

Haven't weighed him yet so don't know if he lost anything on the transit.  He ate no apples and very little, if any oranges en route.  I doubt if he got off the perch.  There were no droppings other than right under the perch.  I think he has changed time zones and caught up on lost sleep on the plane.

The Hawaii pick up part went very well; nothing to it.  I signed for him and they brought him out.  Only took five or six minutes.  They even complemented the vet on "perfect" paperwork.  So if you ship another to Hawaii, make it a carbon copy of the way you did Kuali`i.

Keith

Kuali'i, Keith, and I send you many warm wishes for a very happy holiday!  He seems to be learning more every day . . . and eats like a little pig!  He still much prefers his fruit pellets over the noncolored ones he should be eating, but eats lots of pomegranates, grapes, soy beans, corn on the cob, papaya, kale, and melon seeds, so hopefully he's getting the diet he needs.  Now if I could just get him to stop squawking, or to tell us what that squawk means!

He's definitely the sweetheart you promised . . . thank you for giving him such a good start!

Hi Lisa,

Bonsai is doing fine.  He is sooooo ADORABLE!  He's warming up to everyone including our yorkies.  We took him to the vet Saturday and had some blood work done so we have a baseline of him. We'll find out Monday if there are any problems, which I doubt.

He is eating his veggies in the mornings and I give him brown rice with egg shells included for a little comfort food for dinner. Tonight he had some garbanzo beans and lentils and raw whole wheat pasta. He gets pomegranate seeds, apples, mango for afternoon snacks. He has access to his pellets all day. I also give him the seeds you sent every other day (one tablespoon).  Can you tell me where I can get more of the seeds you sent?  They look so much more fresher than the ones I see at the petstore. Let me know.  He spends most of his time on his tree perch playing with toys til it's bedtime.

Bonsai is really funny and cute.  I tell him let's go "hide" and I put him in my sweatshirt and he climbs upwards towards my neck and just stays there with his beak and eye peeping out of my neckline.  At one point he used his beak to pull my sweatshirt over his head. Too cute!  My husband shook his head in amazement on how Bonsai likes to cuddle.
He also lets me clean his beak when we watch tv and likes his head and neck scratched.  He also lets me give him kisses and after he just rests his beak on my lips. SUPER SWEET!  The whole family can't get over how SWEET he is.  Hope Bonsai doesn't grow out of it.

Whatever you're doing to raise your babies, don't stop!  They must get a lot of special attention because Bonsai is just one reflection of sweetness.  I can only imagine how the other birds in your care are doing.  I'm glad I read all the reviews about you and chose you as a breeder to purchase from.  Just wished you lived closer to San Francisco so we wouldn't have to pay shipping...plus I would love to visit and admire all those birds you have!

Thank you ...thank you...thank you so much for Bonsai!

Joyce

Hello Lisa,

Sorry it took long for me to get pictures of Bonsai.  I'm hoping you get to see these pics.  I never send out pics thru email....this is the first time.  Let me know if you don't get them.  Bonsai is doing fine.  He is making sooo many funny sounds.  Hope that's indicative of his talking ability...if it is...we're in trouble!  He'll be yakking all day long...what a treat!  :)  I weigh him every morning/night to watch his weight.  He understands when I say "center" when I put him down on the scale.  He goes to the center of the scale and stands still until I tell him to step up.  He seems to pick up on things quickly.  He enjoys sitting on his perch near the sliding door to our yard...plus that door is always open (screen and iron bars closed) so he can get fresh air all day.

Thanks again for Bonsai!

Hi Lisa,

I've been meaning to send this to you for awhile. We have had our little guy since August and he has become so special to us. We take him to work with us everyday so he is rarely alone. He is funny and smart. He learned to say his name within the first two months that we had him and now there is no limit to the words that he is learning. He now says "Hey you!" "Pretty Bird" "Ciao Baby!" and "Come on!" and he even makes up new sentences like "Hey you, baby!" He keeps us laughing everyday. Django is very affectionate and loves to play with his toys. Sometimes we find him on his back on the bottom of his cage with one of his rattle balls held above him with his feet. And he eats practically anything that you give him. My husband, Greg, likes to cook and Django loves to eat what he makes. He loves pizza and pasta (but only with sauce!) Greg makes him toast every morning. Django loves to take baths also and if he doesn't get his bathtub sometimes he improvises with his water dish! And he gets along well with his dog sister. Django also lives up to his name as he loves music, especially blues with harmonica and the Rolling Stones. He enjoys helping Greg play his guitar.

I told you when we met that our 28 year old cockatiel, Dobie, had just passed away at the end of June. I'm thinking that she sent Django to us because he has added such a delight to our lives. Thank you for everything. We are so happy with our new addition.

Best wishes, Lois Bach

Good morning Lisa.  Just a quick note to let you know Pia is doing great! She is a little cuddle bug, eating great, plays and climbs all over her gyms and cage and has become fond of eating breakfast with me! The weather has been beautiful here, so this weekend we're going to lounge out on the deck. She's just wonderful. thanks so much!!

Have a great week, Billy

Pia has settled in beautifully! She loves to play and hangout with me all the time, we had a light sun shower this after noon so I took her out to the deck and she LOVED it, she was talking and squealing and flapping. She eats everything offered to her and is especially fond of fruit juices. I have to get my good camera up here from Florida to get some good shots, I took a few from my BB to send to you. Can't thank you enough for starting me such a wonderful, loving Parrot! More photos soon.

Best, Billy and Pia

Hi Lisa! Hope all is well. Just a quick update on Pia. She is AWESOME! The weather has been perfect here and we spend most afternoons out on the deck, which she loves! she's growing right along, eats everything and weight is perfect. She loves to lay on her back in the palm of my hand while I bounce her...hang from my hand by one foot while i rock her, she's so much fun to be around. she's very quiet and never demanding. Talking and gurgling and making noises, soo cute! I showed her herself in the mirror yesterday, and she belted out "HOW ARE YOU!" Lol. She has  stands in every room, so when I'm home she just follows me around the house and makes herself comfortable. VERY impressive parrot. I attached a few photos for you. Have a GREAT weekend!

Best! Billy & Pia

"Morocco"

Scarlet

Macaw Male

Howdy Lisa,

Well, we finally made it home, safe and sound (screech, squawk!!).  On Monday, when we left my brother's home, it took nearly 11 hours to get home.  Morocco was fabulous until the last half hour when he got fatigued and decided to let us know---ouch.  Otherwise, he is a splendid scarlet macaw.  We took him to our veterinarian, Tom Terbek, from All Creatures Great & Small on Wednesday morning.  Upon examining and weighing him (just under a kilo), Tom informed us that the bird is incredibly healthy.  We already knew he would be because of all the TLC you gave him after he hatched.  In addition, Imie and I, and her son John, have taken him out of the cage numerous times and he is a gem.  We purchased a video that we think will help us raise him to do tricks, etc., etc.  We want to thank you again for having such patience and persistence in raising this gorgeous animal!!  We will stay in touch from time to time and let you know about him.

Very truly yours, Gene and Imie Mandell
