Congratulations to anyone who has found this
webpage and is looking for a companion bird!
My
Husband & I have known Lisa and Mike for almost
4 years now and have bought 4 baby birds from
them. Yes, we have feathered kids :) Lisa
raised all of our birds from babies. She hand
fed them, cared for them and gave us healthy,
well socialized babies. Her facility is the
cleanest I have ever seen and She cares for ALL
of Her birds like they were going to stay in Her
home as Her very own. To date we have gotten a
Blue & Gold Macaw (Echo), a Male Vos Eclectus
(Gizmo), a Lilac Crowned Amazon (Petrie) and a
Double Yellow Amazon (Corey), all hand raised by
this wonderful person, Lisa.
Lisa &
Mike have the most beautiful breeding birds that
are also being cared for in a clean, attentive
and caring facility. Since they live right there
with their birds, there is 24-7 care. I am so
impressed with their facility and their birds.
Another
important aspect of doing business with Lisa &
Mike is that there is so much support AFTER the
sale. Lisa has always been there to answer any
of My questions and address any of My concerns.
All around, you could not do better looking
anywhere else for a companion bird.
For any
of your bird needs, be it a healthy, well
socialized baby birds, to supplies for your
feathered friend, this is the place to do
business.
Sincerely, Rich & Chris Peterson (kids too!!)

In July we bought our Blue and Gold Macaw from Lisa and her
Husband's business, and I strongly recommend BDR Hand fed
Babies to anyone looking to buy any bird. You can trust
Lisa with your bird from the day it's hatched to the day you
bring it home, and then if you have any questions she's
always there for you and your family. Lisa hand fed Ruffles
and took care of him, I would definitely buy another bird
from her business in the future, and would be more then
willing to board our Blue and Gold Macaw Ruffles with Lisa
and her Husband, when you buy a Bird from BDR you become
part of the family.
Thank you

Scarlet Macaw
Female |
|
Dear Lisa,
It's only been a week but it seems like much longer. Scarlet
has definitely become far more than our pet, she has become
a part of our family. She is such a delight. Because of the
extensive reading I did in preparation for having a bird, I
am aware just what a precious gem you have given us. Sure we
paid for "the bird" but the benefits of the way you have
raised her in the few short months she was with you will
continue years and years; quite likely beyond my lifetime.
She is affectionate and trusting, healthy and flexible, and
so very suited to the strange life we ask a companion bird
to live. Thank you for teaching her to "Step Up" and "Step
Down", thank you for teaching her that humans are the source
of love and guidance, and thank you for introducing her to a
wide variety of experiences from food to people and more.
Also, thanks for helping her be towel friendly. For our
first bird we couldn't have asked for a better experience.
She loves her "mash" (various mixtures of vegetables, rice,
sweet potato, fruits, vegetables, etc.) once and even twice
a day. She has gained a little weight. She's over 760 grams
now. Charlotte spends time with her in the morning, and We
both spend time with her in the evening. It's so funny how
she imitates us. If we introduce a new toy, like every bird,
she eyes it with suspicion, but if one of us chews it and
plays with it... well it must be ok... and there she goes.
Attached are some funny pictures of her with mash all over
her beak! She likes it when we wipe it clean for her when
she's done. When people come over they are always pleasantly
amazed at how friendly and affectionate she is. The dog has
become a devoted groupie and spends hours and hours by her
cage watching her or sitting in front of her perch. It's
quite amusing. Sometimes she sits on the bottom of her cage
staring at him and he staring at her... I think she
appreciates his company.
She loves "love". We are working with her everyday to
instruct her so she learns to play and explore, so that
during her times alone she can amuse and forage for herself,
but she LOVES love. She has taken to showers very quickly
and likes the warmth of the blow dryer. Really, our biggest
challenge is to learn and be disciplined about treating her
as a bird and macaw first and pet and companion second so
that she has a full life; it's so easy just to cuddle with
her all the time.
I can't recommend that Happy Bappy book enough. It
thoroughly prepared me to continue the great work you did
with Scarlet. It made me feel very confident that I could
gently nurture and guide her. just in case I thought I would
send you the link:
www.companionparrot.com also feel free to call and talk
to Sally Blanchard the magazine editor. She is very friendly
and helpful.
Could I trouble you for the link to the custom perch
source? I still don't have a perch that goes the width of
the cage. Feel free to use anything in this e-mail on your
web site, and of course if I meet anyone looking for a bird
you know where I'll send them... even if I have to drive.
Both my wife and I wish we lived closer so we could
volunteer to help with cleaning and socializing... *sigh*.
We'll keep you posted from time to time.
Thanks,
Vaughn, Charlotte and Scarlet

"Kiwi"
Solomon
Island
Eclectus Male |
Dear Lisa and Mike,
We love Kiwi. We are all adjusting to each other. We think
he is talking to either the hawk that regularly flies over
or the squirrels. He is the center of attention. His spot
is the desk behind Corby’s so Corby and Kiwi have bonded
well. He loves basil, carrots, and like you said, jalapeños.
He likes pomegranates. When my neighbor found out she gave
me all she could from her tree. (Another neighbors comes
over frequently just to hold and talk to him.) He likes
cooked carrots and lentils. He is beginning to like yams. I
put a peanut in a wad of paper for him to shred and he is
beginning to realize that some of the papers have a surprise
in them. This provides a few moments of play for him. When
we take him for his shower he opens his wings and loves it.
Because of his cold we have been drying him with a hair
dryer and putting him under two light bulbs to make sure he
is dry after the shower. He does not seem to mind the hair
dryer which amazes a lot of people. We love him and he is a
real part of our family and business. He has many
admirers.
The
whole experience was easy and good. I appreciate the fact
that he is not banded but that you had your vet put a chip
in him. If we ever decide to get another bird we will
contact you first. You did everything you said you
would. His personality is beginning to show and we are all
in love. Your initial response was positive and our dealings
have been easy and good all the way through. We feel you got
him off to a great start. When we brought him home you gave
us enough food so we did not have to rush out and buy food
which gave me time to find which pet store had the same
food. He did not have to adjust to a new home and new
food. I have seen other pictures and I think he is better
looking than most of the pictures I have seen.
Thank you again,
Love,Mary Sue

I wanted to Thank you for our new family member "Elliot"
In the beginning I was a little skeptical about purchasing a
macaw over the Internet. Fortunately, you changed my skepticism
as soon as we spoke. I appreciate all the time you spent over
the phone and all the e-mails explaining your facility, the
shipping process, my baby bird updates and all the wonderful
pictures of our bird. We were very pleased with our experience
and all the information you supplied us with over the last 8
weeks. Our new family member is a very sweet bird thanks to all
your affection and attention (even the Veterinarian was
surprised how sweet Elliot was!)

Hello everyone, I would like to share with you my happiness
on purchasing a B/G Macaw named "Crookie" from Lisa at
Breeding Dream Ranch. Our Macaw is a 5 1/2 month old B/G and
he is a male. I first met Crookie when Lisa actually brought
me an umbrella cockatoo to look at. I have always liked the
B/G macaws, but I was always afraid of them to....must of
been the big beak...:-) Lisa showed me the umbrella cockatoo
and then brought out her 5 month old B/G. I held him and for
some reason felt an immediate attachment. This bird was not
only beautiful, but so loving, gentle and sweet. What more
could you ask for in a bird. I could tell the bird was well
taken care of. You could also tell immediately that Lisa was
a caring person for her birds and she was also a wonderful
person. She was not pushy, demanding or any hard pressure
tactics to purchase a bird. Lisa made it clear she loves her
birds and wants very good homes for them. I immediately told
Lisa after only 5 minutes that Crookie was the one for me.
If you wondering why we call him Crookie, his upper mandible
is slightly crooked, but he is beautiful. I took Crookie to
the vet after a few weeks of bonding and saw Dr. Chuck
Galvin in Novato, Ca. Crookie got a clean bill of health
after his physical exam and blood work. Dr. Galvin also
complimented Crookie on being a great looking Macaw. Dr.
Galvin has been a vet seeing birds and other animals for
about 30 years or so and has a great reputation.
If you chose to purchase a bird, I would highly recommend
you purchase one from Lisa or at least give her the
opportunity to talk with you, answer your questions and show
you her birds. Lisa has kept in contact with me and always
responds back to my email's which indicates to me that she
is truly in it for the birds and just not a buck. Thanks
again Lisa for a wonderful bird that gives me xoxoxoxox and
loves to cuddle on the couch with me. Crookie sends his love
to you and your husband to...xoxoxoxoxox from Crookie!

Hello to any and all future
happy bird owners!
First, I would like to congratulate you on finding the most
wonderful bird breeder on the planet! My boyfriend and I had
searched and searched for a bird breeder for months in the North
Valley and there was NOTHING! The few that we did have
interactions with left us with a sour taste in our mouth and an
emptiness in our home. Then along came Lisa and Mike Prather.
Wow. What an amazing and easy process this all was. The first
night I called Lisa at 8:30 pm inquiring about checking out her
facility, and I got a call back twenty minutes later! She was
genuine on the phone and answered even the most ridiculous
questions with patience and knowledge. The next night John and I
drove out to Dairyville to see the babies. We had our heart set
on a African Grey. We had talked over and over about different
kinds of birds and how we wanted a Grey. Then we walked in and
there was Dwight. A little shy Goffin Cockatoo. He was the most
adorable little thing. I would have taken him right there but
John was still not sold on the idea of giving up on getting an
African Grey. So, we spent about two hours with Lisa, Mike, and
the birds and went on our way. I was in love. The whole way home
I was telling John how cute he was and how much I wanted him.
Finally, John looked over at me and said, "Call Lisa, ask her
how we can send her a deposit..." I went through the roof with
excitement and from that moment on Lisa and Mike were nothing
but accommodating. They let us come out and visit Dwight
whenever we wanted. They answered our questions no matter how
silly. Not only that, every night we went out there was like a
shopping trip too. They have tons of toys and we even got his
cage from them! Which for me was a huge stress relief because I
had no idea what size he needed or where to get one. Also, Lisa
has a Bird Vet that visits her facility two or three times a
year and we can take our bird to him when he's here. Lord knows
it is like searching for a needle in a haystack to find a good
bird vet. I can't say enough about Mike and Lisa. They are
wonderful wonderful people that genuinely care about the birds
and not just the buck. Not only is Dwight beautiful and healthy,
but he has an inquisitive and strong nature. He's friendly to
anyone that approaches him and he is a staple in our home. I
wouldn't trade him for anything. We WILL definitely get more
birds and we WILL definitely get them from Mike and Lisa. I
would and DO recommend them with confidence to anyone in search
of a beautiful and friendly and well adjusted bird. You will not
be disappointed! Mike and Lisa, thank you so much for our new
baby. He is adjusting well and loves to sunbathe when we eat
outside in the morning. The dogs are still not quite sure of
him, but he is just as confident around them as anything else!
Thank you so much! We will definitely keep you posted! |

Hello Lisa, Boy time does fly. It's been almost a year since
we received Molly from you.
She is doing great. She gets along well with our blue and
gold -Tango. She has such a great attitude
and a zest for being funny. She never fails to make us laugh
EVERY day. She loves to climb down off her perch and walk
around on the floor searching out things to destroy.
Her new habit is to talk into the metal food dishes on her
perch, just to hear herself talk. I guess she likes to hear
the echo. She says hello- I love you -shut up- and of course
Ha Ha.
When we play with her she flips upside down on her back and
I play with her feet. I say tickle the feet - tickle the
feet- I smell smelly feet she says HA HA.
She is a joy to have around. Of course she has her loud
moments. But I try to spend time with her when she gets real
loud.
We moved to another house that has a sun room. They all seem
to like it. Molly took to the move very well. We had
problems with Tango on our last move. This time we prepared
them for the move.
So things are going well.
Thank you for the nice card you sent at Christmas. Nice
pictures of the birds.
Well I just wanted to let you know that Molly is doing
great.
Thanks for sending us a sweetheart

We wanted to thank you for such an awesome and
smooth transaction with our Sun. Zeus is doing great and we
love him so much, he is the sweetest bird we've ever

established a routine, and it's cute when he calls out to us
whenever anyone comes through the front door, it's
hilarious. He still acts like he's nursing when he plays
with the string from my sweatshirt - I guess he thinks it's
the eyedropper.
I can't express enough what a great experience it was to
deal with you, enough that we want to get the Greenwinged

It was nice to finally meeting you guys Sunday.
Well we stuck with Gus for his name. Nothing else suited him I

He's doing pretty good. He is a lot more laid back than my

stares at her:^)They're getting used to each other slowly but
surely.
I really appreciate all the contact and keeping
me up to date when purchasing him from you guys. I will most
definitely purchase a bird from Breeding Dreams Ranch in the
future. And like I said when I met you guys I E-mailed eight or
nine people up and down California wondering if they had any

responded and boy was I lucky. I was able to contact you anytime

Finally a moment
to let you know what went on with the pineapple greencheek
conure
After various
delays and change of planes the bird finally made it to NY.
I was really worried about her, but you were right she did
VERY well.
She was latching
on to the front of the carrier as to say " let me out!"
Once I did, she would not let go of me. She immediately
drank some bottled water and she behaved as nothing ever
happened. We went to bed early that night and the next
morning she was very playful and just so special.
We are very
happy with her, she is beautiful and graceful, so I kept the
name "Giselle" for her.

hello Lisa,
I
thought I would write you a letter to let you know that
cookie is absolutely the most beautiful and sweetest bird I
have ever came in contact with. You both must have truly
loved her. She still is pretty quiet, although the other day
I think she said "back it up" . I was wondering if she
learned that from you. Anyhow, she sits in my lap and lets
me preen her any where I want. Any she makes this weird
whining type noise when I am loving her. She isn't a big
chewer yet, like I thought she would be, but loves to cuddle
cuddle cuddle. She also has some weird fascination with
trying to chew my fingers, maybe you know what that is all
about or that is her way of telling me she is hungry, not
sure?? Every day we get closer and closer, and cant believe
how she is after just one week. She seems to hate the dark,
she hisses if you walk by her cage and its dark out...we had
to put a blanket over it because I cant find a cage cover
big enough for a corner cage like hers. She has pretty much
became my bird, so we might have to get a bird for my
husband, and her....maybe something smaller. I have inserted
some pictures for your website of her. And I cant thank you
enough for all that you have done and for the awesome
personality my baby cookie has. SHE IS A BIG BIG BABY. thank
you and I will keep in contact.

Macaw |
Hi Lisa
and Mike,
We just
wanted to let you know how constantly amazed we are with our
big boy, Kozmo; what a wonderful and extremely loving
personality he has! He hasn’t met a stranger yet.
Everybody just loves him and he’s so hilariously funny. We
love to listen to him practicing his words, it’s just
adorable. We got some awesome news today from our daughter
too; she works at a place called Tropical Sno (it’s a
perfect summer treat of shaved ice with lots of different
flavors to choose from) and she made up her own flavor
combination and called it the “Kozmo”. The “Kozmo” consists
of Blue Raspberry (for his gorgeous blue feathers), Piña
Colada (for his brilliant gold feathers) and Margarita
(which represents his green cap); well, let’s just say it
was a grand hit! The owners found out how popular it was
and decided to make it a regular flavor!! So, Kozmo may not
even know it, but he’s already famous!! We were so
excited! We think this is just the first of many exciting
adventures in Kozmo’s life!
Thanks so
much for raising such a joy! We so appreciated all of your
attention to details and your patience will all of our
questions was extraordinary. This could not have worked out
better, in our opinion; from your door to ours, it was
smooth as could be. Anyone would be lucky to own a bird
that was first raised by you and Mike; they are truly loved
and very well taken care of. Kozmo has truly exceeded our
expectations. We promise to keep you updated on, the now
famous, Kozmo’s progress.
Take care,

"Montie"
Lilac Crowned
Amazon Female |
Hi
Lisa,
Montie
took a long afternoon nap and then had a good hour of
activity but I did not leave her out longer as she had
obviously been exhausted as you said. She got out of the
cage on my hand and stayed there begging while I gave
her some warm mashed food which I fed her off my fingers
(good bonding for me to be Mom for a couple of days).
After she ate quite a lot, she went on “flyabout”. She
is very fit, that is evident as she flew in circles for
quite a while looking for a place to land. Then she
landed on my head. She definitely needs to learn recall
to a hand – we’ll start that tomorrow and that is how
she will earn her breakfast (first, just stepping from a
perch to me, then graduating to little hops, then short
flights, etc.) She had a short but positive interaction
with my YNA – Montie is not intimidated by her <g>.
Their cages are side by side. What fabulous color she
has – photos don’t do her justice. Attached is a photo
with mashed food on her face! I’ll send a better photo
for the website soon. She is a doll and has already won
our hearts!
Regards,
Trish
Hi Lisa,

flier. She can easily hover over something to see if
she thinks it is good to land on, then flit off to
hover over something else. Sometimes it’s almost
like having a big green hummer around. She flies
strongly around the house, dipping and diving, then
sliding in for a landing on the smooth kitchen
counter or touching down perfectly balanced on the
top of a spray bottle
– no kidding, it was Windex.
You
can see the phenomenal beauty of her condition in
these photos – you should be so proud!!
Regards,
Trish

"Jasper"
Solomon Island
Eclectus Male |
Lisa, as I said in my
message Jasper made it home
safe and sound. He has
tired but he adjusted very
well. I have been amazed
with how quickly he has
taken to everyone. He is
just so beautiful and so
sweet we couldn't have asked
for better addition to our
family. I will keep in
touch and will send some
pictures. Thanks so much
for everything and I'm sure
I will have many more
questions to come.
|
|
I'm sorry I haven't been keeping in touch with you about
Jasper...... He is doing just great!!!! We are really
enjoying him. My family gives me such a hard time. They
say I cook for him more then I do them.. I am having a great
time. Putting him in the office for bed time is working out
so much better. I would like to get another cage so I can
have a sleeping cage in the office and put his regular cage
in the living room where it is more open and full of windows
and sun. What size should I get for a sleeping cage? I
just wanted to thank you again for him, I just love him!!!!
I thought I would send a couple of pictures I took today.
Also one more thing... What is your opinion in clipping
their wings?

"Ricky"
Yellowsided
Greencheek Conure |
I just wanted
you to know that Ricky has made himself right at home. He
likes everyone in the family and will fly across the room
right to me. He loves to be held and is quite cuddlely. He
enjoys having his head rubbed and closes his eyes and
relaxes when I rub him right at the neck. He makes a noise
like a cricket, so we have decided to have his nickname
Ricket. He is so cute! I was wondering if you only give
the birds pellets and fruit/vegetables and don't give seed
daily because Ricky seems to want to only eat the seed, so I
have been giving him some and then removing the seed from
the cage to encourage eating pellets. He doesn't seem to
want to eat any vegetables/beans or fresh fruit. He eats a
little of the dried fruit. Let me know what you think and
if I should be concerned with his eating habits. The
princess of wales bird we got loves her vegetables! She
will eat most anything you give her. I gave her some
scrambled egg yesterday and she loved it. Oh, also I wanted
to add that I am seriously thinking of getting a bird for
myself after the New Year as a birthday present for myself.
What would you suggest as a larger bird, but one that would
be friendly enough for a family situation.

Hi Lisa!
Just wanted to send you an email to let you know how things are
going.
I'm in love already! :) He (I started calling him a "he") is
such a sweet little baby. And goofy too! He really likes to sit
on top of my head. In fact, he is right now as I am typing you.
He will climb from my hand, up my arm, to my should and right
onto my head. He is cleaning himself now since I gave him a
little spray bath just a little bit ago. I know one of these
days he is going to end up pooping in my hair! Haha He likes to
sit on the edge of the couch, look out the window and play with
the blinds.
We haven't came up with a name yet. I figure that will come in a
few days as we get to know him more. But he is doing great! He
likes his cage and his toys. He eats his food and drinks his
water. I tried offering him some banana and some broccoli but he
didn't care for either. So we will keep trying.
He can get a little nippy sometimes, he got a good bite out of
my ear. Hehe. But I know he is just a baby and will learn as he
gets older.
I wanted to ask you if you thought I should cover his cage at
night? Or I have read to maybe get like a little sleeping box
for his cage? Just wanted to get your opinion on that.
Thanks again for my beautiful baby! He really is a joy to have
here.
Oh yeah, I'm attaching a few pictures.

"Einstein"
Timneh African
Grey Male |
Einstein LOVES the ferret ball most of all.
He puts it in his beak and shakes the daylights out of it,
making the bell ring ring ring....over numerous times. He
falls quite a bit from the upper perches. In another week,
I believe that I will lower them and place them
differently. I think that my scale was like 90-96 grams
greater than your scale. When I got him home, he weighed
244g....he has weighed 246 248 250 360 256 260 and today
252. He loves to flap his wings....A LOT. I think he
learned that from the Macaws? I have also seen him on his
back on the bottom of the cage, feet up...playing with that
ferrett ball. He is such a joy. Today, was his 1st school
day. He is learning 1-10 this week, next week will be A-G,
and the following week will be colors. I think this routine
will be his 'school time"/"school's out" for about 3
months. Then, I might begin to mix them up....depending on
him. He is pretty slick on trying to find ways of NOT
stepping down onto his perch inside of his cage, to keep
hanging on to you. Such a love. I say "I love you", and
now he associates that with giving a kiss. He is the
smartest Timneh on the planet! Here are 2 pics, taken of
him, his 1st day home.

Macaw Male |
I recently bought my new buddy Oso, (blue and gold macaw)
from Lisa and Mike at Breeding Dreams Ranch. They were great
people to deal with on purchasing a new bird! They took time
from their day to allow me to come visit Oso while he was
being weaned. Mike even took time out of his work day for me
to come visit Oso on Columbus Day!!! They were both very
informative Lisa even told me a little about the breeding
aspects to the Ranch!! She didn’t have to do that and I
appreciate that she did! Lisa also was nice enough to work
with Oso and the Aviator Harness I had bought for him! She
didn’t have to do that but she did and now Oso goes into the
harness really well!! Thanks again Lisa for going that extra
mile!!! Oso is a very friendly and loving bird! Lisa and
Mike really care about their baby’s and it shows in them!!!
If you are looking for a great companion bird, you can stop
looking!!! You have just found the best bird breeder
around!!! Breeding Dreams Ranch!!!

He is dozing off right now. A really big day. I will write
more in a day or so, but he is wonderful. So gentle and
deliberate in his movements. He wanted to cuddle and keep
being held until just a short while ago. We 'decorated' his
cage together. He has eaten a little, and had a little
water.
Attached are photos of him in my (sealed) office with him on
his new cage with the doors open. He has been in and out
several times to play with the toys and have some food or
drink.
|
|
I am so happy and grateful to write these two precious
parrots love each other so much. Everything is perfect.
Just the way we pictured it on our Vision Board and in our
hearts.
As long as I live, I will always remember the expression of
utter delight on Pookie's face when she first saw her little
brother. Even now, I cannot write about it without tears of
joy. At that moment, I knew I'd done the right thing for
her, and that the beloved little chick you entrusted us with
would be loved by Pookie as much as I love him. My heart
soared.
We did proceed stepwise, with sight-only days, then
same-room cage days, with lots of personal, private
attention for each. Appetites were very good and new,
exciting foods and enriching sights were (and are) part of
every day.
They were introduced on the new play gym in a neutral, safe
space...and the rest is the happiest story. They love one
another so much. Our family is complete.
There has never been a fight of any sort. Of course they
are supervised, but from the get-go it was clear there would
be no need for nervous watching. When they play and groom
and squabble there is very little noise. Sometimes when one
gets a little louder, they both look over to me at the same
instant to see if "she saw." There has been such generosity
from the beginning. Food is shared every day. He even
bites off small papaya chunks from the ones that come in the
fruity mix so Pookie can eat them easily. She gives him all
the almonds, because he likes those.
Right now, they're both earnestly playing with the same toy,
a circle of cotton ropes, like clothesline, all knotted and
attached. He will play for hours with the same toy,
especially if he's positioned to see out the windows.
I'm attaching some photos. They just awoke from a nap, side
by side on my ankle last week. That's one of them. And our
first shower. He loves the shower, too. Pookie despises
towels, but he doesn't mind them, so I wrap him up like a
papoose and give him extra love in hopes she might like them
and let me help her dry off.
He's so sure on his feet now, climbing and really liking the
play gym and the rope perches. He's also flying much more
surely. Pookie is an excellent flyer, and he's learned a
lot about forward propulsion from her. We always praise his
every effort.
He is so, so gentle, with Pookie and me. Much gentler than
Pookie. Not one hard bite. Fortunately, Pookie's nippiness
has absolutely not rubbed off on him. He just moves and
conducts himself in a completely different way.
I have been waiting for him to tell me his name. Pookie now
has a word for him, so I know it won't be long. He is a
very quiet and thoughtful parrot. In his own good time, he
will tell me.
Thank you so, so, so much for letting him come live with
us. We hope you enjoy the photos and our stories. There
will certainly be more.

I just wanted to thank you Lisa
for the advice.
They both seem to be settling in
nicely. They both spent time on a play stand this morning
while we did some reading. They watched us very closely and
seem to be getting used to us. The older one we call
Savannah and she is stepping up pretty good even from her
cage, if I stand there a few minutes and talk to her gently
first. The youngest who we call Dixie has stopped crying
and is doing fine also. This weekend I didn't think that
crying would stop!! :-) They are both huge eaters and seem
to have adjusted to what I feed them just fine.
The vet said they were in great
condition and their gram stains were perfect which I rarely
see with birds who have been stressed like these were. So
you did a great job on raising them and they were very
healthy to make it through the stress without stressing
their system!! We ran some blood tests but I am sure they
will all be fine.
Thanks again,
Rita

Hi Lisa,
I just wanted to let you know that Niko & Nala are doing great.
Niko is very sweet and loves to be petted. Nala is a little
aggressive and likes to be to herself. She doesn't like to be
petted much, only when she wants to be. They love their toys and
the attention we give them. We are also training them on how to
step up. Niko is catching on and Nala only gives one foot. Other
than that, we are having so much fun with them. Attached are
three pictures, one with both of them (Niko on left and Nala on
the right) and the other are them by themselves.

Hi Lisa,
Coco is doing great; that spoiled little girl is up to a cage, a
stand next to our diner table for her to be able to eat with us,
a Manzanita play stand in the family room and a Boodah ceiling
hung spiral rope perch in my office so she can help me work. She
loves to talk up a storm at bedtime. It's quite funny; I'm
putting her in her cage to go to sleep telling her "good night"
and she starts saying, "hi, hi, hello, hi". I'm working on
training her the appropriate responses to certain actions. I
know that they say they tend to talk more in the evening; this
is definitely true for her.

his vet visit it tomorrow morning. Will let you know how it
all went. Thanks again for such a sweet bird. Will keep you

Hi Lisa.
We are completely smitten with Cedric the Edutainer! He's doing
great. He tries all of the foods we offer; he loves his showers;
he plays like a maniac; he'll go to anyone; he's perfect.
Everybody thinks he's awesome. Each AM, he welcomes the sun with
his raucous calls but only for a minute. The sound makes us miss
the jungle! The only bummer is that he's broken several tail and
wing feathers in falls sustained as he's climbing all over his
cage. I've read that they are quite clumsy.
His program appearances begin in January. I'll try to remember
to let you know how he does.
Thanks again for everything.

"Kiwi"
Sun
Conure |
|
We just got our sun conure, Kiwi from Breeding Dreams Ranch
a few days ago. As soon as I saw the picture that Lisa sent
of her I knew she was the right bird for me, and it turns
out I was absoulutely right. She's really smart and very
cute. We drove all the way up from San Diego, so there was a
long ride home. Kiwi almost never went into her cage except
when she was hungry, and most of the car ride she slept on
my chest. We had a pomogranite in the back seat, and once
she found it she had a giant "pomogranite party"... she
flung seeds ALL over the car and rolled around in the juice,
she ran from any one who tried to take her precious fruit
away! :) Her colourful feathers got all sticky!!
She loves to take showers with me and we even bought her a
special shower perch that attatches to the wall of the
shower.
During my search for the perfect bird I visited many pet
stores. The birds there bit your fingers when you tried to
pet them and weren't very nice. It's probably because those
birds are always being poked at and handled by people, and
sometimes children might not be very careful with the birds
when they visit the store. One conure even drew blood when I
tried to get it to step up on my finger.
At B.D.R. the birds get constant attention, and Lisa and
Mike are really nice and used to working with birds.
Kiwi hasn't bit me once. She's so careful, and she tries as
hard as she can to be gentle with her beak. She loves to
preen my eyebrows and eyelashes. ;)
If anyone wants to get a bird, get it from Breeding Dreams
Ranch. Lisa, Mike, and their birds are really special and
you can see that as soon as you walk in ... or even talk to
them over email for the first time.
Some breeders are kind of shady, but Lisa and Mike are
totally the opposite. They'll answer any questions you have,
and you can come pick up your bird if you want to. Their
birds aren't just pets. The bird will become a member of the
family immediately. I'm glad I got a bird from B.D.R. and I
can't figure out how I managed to live without one. Kiwi is
the best. Thank you so much!!!!

Lisa, Today I was gone all day at work, when I came home he
seemed happy to see me. He came to the front of the cage and
paced back and forth till I went and talked to him. When we
returned after dinner I took him out and fed him from my hand
like you suggested and he ate a huge piece of apple then a chunk
of orange but he wants me to hold them for him, if I put them
down or he drops them he does not eat any more. He like almonds
and Brazil nuts in the shell. I think things will work great for
us once we figure each other out. Thank you for getting back to
me, I feel a little ridiculous asking all the time for help and
want to tell you how much I do appreciate your advise and help.

Blaze is quite the character--Thank You!!!!!!!! She is doing
VERY well as you can see by the pics I am attaching .She is
extremely loving and quite the cuddler but she also is not
afraid of being independent, which is nice.
The two macs see each other but Lucy, our Ruby, has become
quite the naughty one and I have taken quite a few good nips
and bled a bit from her and she has learned a new term--time
out... which happens when she decides to make her point with
too strong of a bite... I know it will be a matter of time
before they will come to a mutual understanding and now,
we're not pushing it.
How was your Holidays?????
I am sure I will keep you posted as things progress it's
just getting used to the additional time in the morning and
stuff that has thrown me off as well as the holiday...

he got here. How should I get him to eat some?
Thank you for a lovely bird and if Fiji needs companion

give them lots of time. But she is doing just fine and is very
much loved!

Lisa and Mike,
I cannot thank you enough for our blue and

wow I am amazed. From the time we spoke on the phone and you
shipped us Jaden the whole transaction was wonderful. You
are truly the best business for anyone looking to purchase a
bird. It is amazing to see the difference between a hand
raised bird and a pet store bird. Jaden is the most
affectionate and loving boy. We love the fact that he loves
to snuggle and give kisses. He is so healthy. He has
adjusted to our household extremely well and loves his big
brother, our Rottweiler Diesel, and he also loves his
sisters Clara and Chloe, our Green Wings. I would never
purchase a bird from anyone else. Even after the transaction
was complete your willingness to answer any questions, not
just about Jaden but about our other birds is awesome. I
would recommend Breeding Dreams Ranch to anyone and everyone
looking to purchase a bird. Thank you again for the time you
have spent with us o n the phone and making the transaction
a smooth and successful one.
